Bruce McWilliam is a Canadian artist that was born into an artistic family in Toronto, Ontario and who married into an artistic family from Abbotsford, British Columbia. Bruce was raised in Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver and returned to Ontario to study architecture, urban planning and art history in Ottawa. After receiving his degree in urban planning studies, Bruce began a successful career that has spanned more than 30 years as a land planner and design consultant in the public and private sector.
During that time, Bruce began to practice sketching; illustrating and rendering urban and landscape environments including inside and outside views of buildings and urban street scenes as a hobby. Inspired by both his grandmother and mother-in-law, who were both gifted amateur oil painters, Bruce began to study fine art techniques and put them into practice in his studio.
Remembering the praise one of his instructors had for one of his early paintings, Bruce continues to challenge his creative talents by simultaneously practicing fine art while his private land planning and design consulting business continues to thrive.
Bruce is a strong believer in the philosophy that you know that you really are an artist, when you realize that you will be one until the end and that your purpose is to create works that others will appreciate as much as yourself. Putting your best efforts into drawing and painting and working hard at developing your artistic craft and having faith in your abilities are the building blocks of a strong foundation for anyone to build a fine art career upon. When we love what we are doing, things have a way of working out, as long as our focus remains on making art and charting our own destiny.
As fine artists, we are only on this planet once, our sales may rise and fall but our legacy will always be based on the art we have produced for others to appreciate and be enjoyed by generations to follow over the coming decades if not centuries to follow after we are gone.
Bruce has traveled extensively throughout Canada, Britain, Mexico and the United States. He can be contacted directly through his website: bemcwilliamfineart.webs.com or by email: [email protected]
"Happy are the painters, for they shall not be lonely.
Light and colour, peace and hope, will keep them company to the end of the day."
